Customer Reviews:
Review #1 A GREAT GREAT SHOE...Trust Me, I KNOW! Hi, Folks!
I have the predecessor to this wonderfully comfortable shoe. I have a history of a very very bad back (L-4, L-5 blown out), and very bad legs and feet (I walk with a cane all the time). I bought them on the recommendation of a sales woman at a local sporting goods store, and I will certainly say that it was very good advice, indeed.
I have worn these shoes for two years (trading off every 3 days as I rotate my shoes) and must say that they are, By Far, the most comfortable, sturdy, well "held-up" shoes. When they have gotten dirty, I have put them through the washer (not the dryer, however), and they look like new, are still sturdy and very supportive, and deal well with my othotics which I wear.
I, for one, can tell you, with true "lived-in" honesty, that these shoes are simply the best pair of "sneekers" that I have ever in my 59 years had on my feet. My feet and legs, and back, too, let me know just how wonderful these shoes are every day that I wear them.
I would recommend these shoes over everything else I have ever worn on my feet for comfort, (including expensive "special" shoes), and certainly for "sneekers" to anybody looking for a long-lasting comfortable shoe. Sure, they cost about 1/2 again as much as your run of the mill "sneeker", but for comfort and durability like this, they are worth 4 times the price. I can see from the condition these shoes are in after 2 years of wear, that there is at least 5 more years in them, without any doubt in my mind.
(As for the comment in one review here about smelling....I suggest washing the feet and using a bacterial foot powder, and, as I do, rotate the shoes daily...any foot doctor will tell you this..."do not repeatedly wear the same shoes every day"! If one keeps their feet clean, uses a good foot powder, and keeps their socks clean and dry, and rotates their wear, I know of NO shoe that will smell very badly that is made of quality materials.) Review #2 M1122 Possible Defect Producing Bad Odor There is a "possible" defect in the M1122 model. I wanted to post my experience here in case others are having this same problem. After wearing the M1122 shoe for only a few months, my pair started producing a very strong odor. The smell was not from the inside but from the outer backside, specifically the area consisting of the ENCAP material which, according to New Balance, is a polyurethane plastic. The smell gradually got worse, so bad in fact, I had to keep them in my garage with the smell being like a mildew/urine odor. I don't own pets, nor had I gotten anything sprayed on it. The smell didn't suddenly occur either, it gradually became more intense over a few weeks. Washing the shoes in the washer wouldn't get the smell out so I returned them to a New Balance store in late December 2006, and they replaced it with a new pair. Up until this past week (late March 2007), the new pair has been great, but now they have started putting off the very same odor, again, not inside the shoe, but coming from the areas on the shoe that the ENCAP material is featured. I decided to call New Balance directly and informed them of the problem. They told me that they did in fact have other complaints from people all commenting of an odd odor coming from the M1122 model shoe. NB requested the pair be sent to them for testing. If you have experienced this problem with your M1122 (or other models), contact New Balance customer support via their website.
** With regards to comfort I give this shoe a five star, but with regards to the problem above, I would have to give it a zero star. A common ground, I have it two stars but based on the problem I have experienced now in TWO pairs of the exact same shoe. Review #3 Big Running Shoe This is a funny shoe. The bottom is flat, with no arch on the outside ( the inside arch is well developed) and the toes curls up. Works well running but feels odd walking. Works well for me, a heavy runner, and has held up well. Big toe box and true to or slightly large for size. Review #4 Amazon shopping is the best! With the proper sizing of my foot by a podiatrist, I then logged on to Amazon, knowing I wouldn't be disappointed! My New Balance size 13 D shoes arrived well within my expectations. I knew I could count on Amazon! A very satisfied customer! Review #5 Happy Feet! Functionally, these shoes are great. They feel really good. I get good support on my problem feet, and I no longer have knee pain after running.
I guess the only draw back is that these shoes look like "medical" shoes. The kind that would be prescribed to old folks with foot problems.
